Magic Maratea
Traveling out of time,
along timeless roads.
The
first one to embrace you in the morning is the gulf.
Just
a few meters walk along the small path that connects the historic
centre with the main road, you will feel immerged in a triumphal
view of steep rocks that slide into the sea, and the thought is
obvious, you might say rhetoric: how admirable is nature.
It
really is a jewel of the
Tyrrhenian Sea.
In
a variety of rocks, sea caves and beaches
this coast is lined with pines, olive and oak trees, carobs and
holms which are silhouetted against the crystal clear sea.
Built
upon a mountain ridge, the village
is entangled in an impressive labyrinth out
of little alleys which lead towards the sea;
and here, genuineness and elegance converge
in one single dimension.
Thanks
to its back drawn and elitist atmosphere, Maratea has always
attracted a cultural and intellectual high society as well as
celebrities who felt the need to escape.
By
dominating the splendor of an incomparable panorama, Saracen towers
and feudal fortresses seem to shake hands.
Below,
the translucent and profound sea,
the craggy and rocky coast, rich in vegetation,
and our vintage motorcycles sliding on along a road
left behind in the past.
With
each bend seems to rise an imaginary
curtain and new sceneries open in front
of the travelers’ eyes leaving them literally captivated.
